Setting up the Backyard Garden
June 19, 2022

These are the photos from the first day of our backyard garden!
First step of setting the backyard garden is to decide where you will grow plants. I decided to set up raised garden beds to keep plants organized and make them more productive. Using raised garden beds make drainage faster and keep temperature warmer, so it is very efficient to use raised garden beds.
Second step is to prepare the soil. I bought several types of garden soil and poured all of them into the garden beds. It is good to make soil high enough so that plants can take roots.
Third step is to dig holes and plant seeds in the holes you made. For me, this was the most fun part of my setting up for backyard garden! I made equally-spaced 8 holes for each garden bed. Then, I placed tomato seeds for the left bed and lettuce seeds for the right bed. Also, it is important to place approximately the same amount of seeds in one hole. Be careful not to pour your entire seeds in one hole!! After placing all seeds, cover them back up with the soil.
Fourth step is to add water evenly to soil. Moisturizing is one of the most important steps in growing plants, so it is important to add enough water to soil.
Now... we are done! I had so much fun in setting up for my backyard garden. As I was preparing for materials, I learned that there are so many types of soils and seeds, which surprised me a lot. I believe that starting your own garden makes you feel proud and give opportunity to think about how you consume food.
