Week 13
September 12, 2022 - September 18, 2022

This was the last week of my backyard-gardening project. On September 17th, I harvested both cherry tomatoes and lettuces to make a salad. I added burrata cheese and nuts to make the dish more flavorful. Tomatoes and lettuces went really well with cheese and nuts, and they were so fresh!
This gardening project, which lasted about 3 months, taught me how to plant and harvest crops in my backyard. At first, I didn't know what materials I needed or what procedures I need to follow. As I was doing research and going to stores to buy gardening supplies, I was able to picture the backyard garden I wanted to make and was so excited to make this really happen. When I finally harvested tomatoes and lettuces, I felt so achieved and proud of what I had done.
So, I wanted to share this meaningful project with other people and inspire them to do a similar project in their own backyard. Once you know how to set up the garden, it will not seem difficult at all. Rather, it will make you want to keep taking care of your garden and harvest them to enjoy your food!
Another reason I wanted to share this project was to provide solutions for food insecurity (more specifically, food desert). Urban agriculture can one of the solutions for solving food deserts, which is the area where people do not have adequate access to nutritious food. So, I wanted to promote this gardening project to raise awareness on urban agriculture and educate people about how small things can start changes in our community.
